Bedrock Travel: prachtige plaatjes van gletsjers van over de hele wereld

De wereld zien, eens ver buiten je bekende bubbel, kan heel veel met je doen. Het is soms makkelijk te vergeten dat er aan de andere kant van de wereld nóg een hele andere wereld bestaat zonder steden, auto’s en mensen. Bij het zien van deze prachtige plaatjes van gletsjers, valt je mond even open.

In de natuur realiseer je je soms pas dat je een onderdeel bent van de natuur en dat mensen eigenlijk maar piepklein zijn. Wie nu denkt ‘dit wil ik oo-oook!’; raak alsjeblieft geïnspireerd door deze prachtige beelden van ijsbergen van Zuid-Amerika tot aan Canada. En voor wie liever thuis blijft; geniet vooral van deze heerlijke plaatjes op de bank!

De mooiste gletsjers ter wereld

Begrijp ons niet verkeerd, wij zijn fan van vakantie in eigen land. Nederland heeft immers ontelbare onontdekte plekjes waar je helemaal tot rust kan komen. Maar toch zul je voor sommige natuurverschijnselen het vliegtuig, de boot of in dit geval de kajak moeten pakken.

Another perspective on the lake, among flooded river canyons cut from white ice. The narrow canyons greatly resemble those cut from sandstone in the Utah desert, leading us to refer to it as Lake Powell when we first found the lake over 2 years ago. Shortly after finding the lake it one day completely disappeared down a massive moulin that reopened below it. From then on it was called Glen Canyon. The glacier is so quickly changing, we never know on a given day what we’re going to see. This year it had refilled, but when Warren hiked his 60 lb inflatable canoe out for this shoot, he did so knowing that there was a very real possibility that the lake would no longer exist. #glaciersarecool #micaguides

Kajakken in Alaska

De Matanuska gletsjer is gelegen in de Amerikaanse staat Alaska. Het is met zijn 43 (!) kilometer de langste gletsjer die met de auto bereikbaar is. Zou jij er durven kajakken?

Op avontuur in British Colombia, Canada

In de Canadese staat British Colombia ben je aan het goede adres als je je wilt wanen in rauwe, grote en vooral prachtige natuur. Grote bomen, veel ijs en grote meren.

Onderschat de kracht van de Noordzee niet, maar wanneer je met je neus voor zo’n natuurverschijnsel staat, realiseer je je ineens dat je onderdeel bent van een prachtige wereld waar we goed voor moeten zorgen.

In 1891 Páll Jónsson was in the first team to summit the highest peak in Iceland, the Hvannadalshnúkur peak. 128 years later, Páll’s great grandson runs the oldest glacier guide company in Iceland. So Aron Jónsson – Páll’s great grandson – comes from generations of glacier explorers. Actually, his grandfather and father were the first Icelanders to start taking people on tours to the ice caves. Their passion for exploration led them to create @localguide in the summer of 1991. Ever since the company has continued to evolve with Iceland’s tourism boom to the point where now Aron and Helen – partners inside and outside of work – have a solid team of locals working with them. Today @localguide continues to impress its guests with the surreal shapes and colors of the glaciers and caves located in the Vatnajokull region of Iceland. Vatnajokull, by the way, is the largest and most voluminous ice cap in Iceland. Their team includes geologists, search and rescue trainers, and professional riggers who have decades of experience exploring glaciers. Besides being massive Game of Thrones nerds, the team shares two common passions: hiking and photography. These same passions led them to create photography groups so everyone can capture safely the beauty of glaciers and ice caves. So when the groups visit the caves, they always try their best to schedule the tour around times when the caves are empty. The last few years have brought new challenges: the glacier lagoons expand as the ice retreats, cutting off access to the glaciers. As access to the glaciers becomes harder, locals have to question how they’ll be able to rely on tourism and the ice to support their families. It is likely Aron and Helen’s son and the kids of the @localguide staff will have the chance to guide. Beyond that, no one is sure. For the time being, we can all enjoy and capture Iceland’s glaciers and ice caves. So if you want to enjoy this unique experience, we extremely recommend you @localguide! Wandelen tussen de gletsjers in IJsland

Sinds een paar jaar wordt IJsland een steeds populairdere vakantiebestemming en wij begrijpen wel waarom! Ongerepte natuur, veel ijs, grote bergen en adembenemende uitzichten. En nog niet eens zo héél ver van huis.

Dit Canadese bedrijfje organiseert heuse kajaktours door British Colombia in Canada. Voor de echte waaghalzen: je kan heli-skiën (ja, je lees het goed: een dropping vanuit een helicopter voor een off piste ski sessie!), ijsgrotten bezoeken, kajakken en zelfs kamperen op de gletsjers.

Wandelen en vissen in Chili

In Zuid-Amerika vind je het prachtige natuurgebied Patagonië. Het rijkt over het zuiden van Chili en Argentinië. De prachtige hogen bergen, besneeuwd en onaangetast vind je het in aller zuidelijkste puntje van Amerika. Wist je dat dit deel vroeger vast zat aan Nieuw-Zeeland? Inmiddels zijn 2 delen los van elkaar geraakt en zie je hierboven een adembenemende gletsjer in Chili.
